BECTA to review licensing programmes in education
Becta, The British Educational Communications and Technology Agency, on
behalf of the Department of Education and skills, has announced it is
to take a value for money review of Microsoft’s dominance in the
education market.
The review will impact on several areas:
cost-efficiency, market domination and the potential lock-in nature of
Microsoft’s relationship with its clients.
The review will pay
particular attention to Microsoft’s subscription licensing models and
whether it represents value for money. It will also examine the
viability of using open source alternatives.
