According to the article at http://lwn.net/Articles/208964/ ,
Birmingham's recent project to convert to Linux desktops was foiled
at least partly because of one app that was only available for Windows.

Anyone know whether they evaluated Wine as a way of running the app?

I've been helping whip Wine into shape lately.   If anyone here is
interested in using Wine, I'd be happy to help get them on the right track,
and help get their app running if needed.

I wonder if Wine is too unstable at present for serious 'corporate' use. It would, of course, be worth while giving it a try to see what the difficulties are. But then, perhaps, head over to CodeWeavers to provide a stable solution using their porting services.
